Why an X Video Download Fails

Most X video download failures are not random. They usually come from a link format SuperDL does not support, a post that is not publicly available, an expired media URL, or a permission prompt on the iPhone.

Find where the download stopped

  • No video options appear: check the original post link and whether the video is public. Use the post-link guide if you copied a profile or feed address.
  • Options appear, but the media will not open: paste the original post again to get fresh links. A returned link can expire or become unavailable.
  • The video opens, but is not in Photos: check Safari’s Downloads and the Files app, or review the Shortcut’s save permission. See Photos and Files guidance.
  • The web tool works, but the Shortcut does not: confirm you installed the current SuperDL Shortcut and check its permissions.

If the service asks you to wait because of a request limit, follow that message before trying again. Repeatedly submitting the same post will not make it available sooner.

The URL is not an individual post

SuperDL supports public status URLs such as https://x.com/username/status/1234567890 and older Twitter status URLs. Profile pages, search results, community pages, timelines, and direct message links are not supported.

The post is private, deleted, or restricted

Private accounts and login-only posts do not expose public media that SuperDL can resolve. Deleted posts and region-restricted posts can also fail because the media is no longer available as a public direct download.

The post does not include downloadable video

Some posts contain images, GIF-like media, embeds, quoted posts, or external links rather than a directly attached video. SuperDL only returns media items when it can resolve direct video URLs that should work on iPhone without private cookies or auth headers.

The direct media link expired

Some media URLs are short lived. If SuperDL showed a video option earlier but the download link later stopped working, resolve the original post again to request fresh media choices.

The Shortcut needs permission

On iPhone, Apple Shortcuts may ask for permission to access the network, download a file, or save to Photos. Allow those prompts only when you trust the workflow and are saving authorized media.

The platform changed something upstream

Social platforms change media formats and page behavior over time. When that happens, a resolver can temporarily fail even for valid public posts. The troubleshooting page lists the quickest checks before contacting support.

What to try next

  1. Confirm the URL is an X or Twitter status URL.
  2. Make sure the post is public and contains attached video.
  3. Try the web downloader to separate Shortcut issues from resolver issues.
  4. Resolve the post again if the media link expired.
  5. Contact support with the public post URL, exact error message, device type, and whether you used Safari or the Shortcut. Do not include passwords or access tokens.
