How to download a Mastodon video
- Open the individual Mastodon post and copy its link using the Share menu or browser address bar. Check that the link uses one of the supported servers below.
- Paste the HTTPS post URL into the downloader, confirm permission to save the video, and select Get media.
- Open an available media result and save it from your browser. A post may contain multiple video attachments rather than multiple resolutions of one video.
On iPhone, open the media result and use Safari’s Share menu to save the video when available. If it opens in Downloads, open the file and share it to Photos. For a share-sheet workflow, get the SuperDL Shortcut.
Supported Mastodon servers and links
Currently supported: mastodon.social, fosstodon.org, and mstdn.social. Mastodon is made up of independent servers; support for these three does not mean every server or remote attachment is supported. Use the HTTPS link to an individual post.

Mastodon video download not working?
For an unsupported-server error, check the hostname in the copied link. Do not replace the hostname manually: post IDs belong to their server. Even a post visible on a supported server may contain remote media hosted elsewhere, which the downloader may not support. Private, followers-only, deleted, or login-required posts cannot be downloaded.
Media URLs can expire. Paste the original post link again for fresh results. If the problem continues, see download troubleshooting or contact support with the post URL and error message.
Mastodon downloader FAQ
Does SuperDL support every Mastodon server?
No. It currently accepts post links from mastodon.social, fosstodon.org, and mstdn.social, and returns media from supported hosts.
Can I save animated Mastodon attachments?
Video and looping-video attachments can appear as results when they provide a supported direct MP4 URL. This tool does not convert other formats into MP4.
Why is there only one quality option?
Mastodon often exposes the attached video file rather than a range of resolutions. SuperDL returns the available files without transcoding or upscaling them.
Can I request another server?
Yes. Contact SuperDL support with the server name and a public video post that you own or have permission to save. Additional servers require compatibility review.
